How to Define Your Interior Design Style

One of the most common things I hear from clients is:
“I don’t know what my style is.”
Here’s the truth: most people don’t fit neatly into one design category — and that’s a good thing. Your style is a blend of your personality, your lifestyle, and the spaces you’re naturally drawn to.
Here’s how to start defining it.
1. Look at What You Already Love
Your home is already giving you clues.
What pieces do you love most? What colors or materials show up again and again? These patterns matter.
2. Pay Attention to How You Want Your Home to Feel
Cozy? Airy? Minimal? Warm?
The feeling you want will guide the style you gravitate toward.
3. Gather Inspiration (Without Overthinking It)
Pin, screenshot, save — don’t analyze yet.
Once you have 20–30 images, you’ll start to see themes.
4. Notice the Common Threads
Do you see:
• Warm wood tones?
• Clean lines?
• Soft neutrals?
• Bold contrast?
• Natural textures?
These clues help define your style direction.
5. Mix, Don’t Match
Your style doesn’t have to fit a label.
It can be “modern with warmth,” “classic with a twist,” or “mountain‑inspired but clean.” The goal is cohesion, not perfection.
Final Thoughts
Your interior design style is already there — it just needs clarity. And once you understand it, creating a home that feels like you becomes so much easier.
If you’re in Boise, Eagle, Meridian, or McCall and want help defining your style and bringing it to life, I’d love to work with you.
